Defibrillators

Defibrillators

Our local community organisations MDCC and MDCT combined to form a specific project group to create, for the community a number of Public Accessed Defibrillators (PADS) to be placed within our operating area to enhance the survival prospects of individuals suffering cardiac arrest.

The project covered the critical phases of, provision of equipment, training and familiarisation with its use, and ensuring the individual PADS ongoing operating performance.

The Public Access Defibrillator (PAD) which is a BARA initiative, sited on the external wall of the Ambulance Station in Aboyne is up and working now and available for use. The BOX which holds the PAD was installed ahead of schedule by the kind actions of local electrician Alan Fraser.  Since then we now have 14 more sites where PADs can be found.

The box is heated and also has LED lights which flash in the dark to enable it to be seen in an emergency situation. This is the recommended housing box used by the Scottish Ambulance Service to house PAD’s.

The box is alarmed and when opened for use (opening from the top down) the alarm will sound until the box is closed again or 3 minutes goes by. Please close the box behind you as quickly as possible. For any member of the public in need of a Defibrillator then PHONE 999 FIRST and then go for, or send someone to get the Defibrillator.

It is accessible 24/7 for ALL in an emergency situation, to be taken to the person in need and to be used as per the voice instructions UNTIL the Ambulance Services arrive. Press the GREEN button on the Defibrillator to start the machine and follow the voice instructions.

Please phone 999 as a Priority and start CPR immediately along with the use of the Defibrillator.

Heart Start Training sessions which include CPR and familiarisation with Defibrillators are free and are led by Dr Jack Taylor with the support of the Tarland and Mid Deeside Community First Responders.

Our area First Responders are the Tarland and Mid Deeside Community First Responders. If you would like to learn more about this group or to enrol in a two hour free course contact:
